One of the things we’re talking about doing in the high tunnel is ‘going vertical’. Since the tunnel has a lot of space above the ground, it makes sense to take advantage of it. Kind of like three dimensional gardening!

There are a lot of options to go vertical. Some are simple wooden pallets filled with dirt to far more complex structures. Some advantages of going vertical are obvious–you can have gardens despite not having any soil. Like on a balcony or porch.

Depending on the structure type, they might be portable and let you move them from place to place to capture the sun.

The Washington Post had a great, short article this weekend along with plans for a simple vertical garden. If you have a minute, check it out.

If you have any questions about gardening in general, or, vertical gardening specifically, stop by the community gardens. Someone is there from 10am-12pm everyday and we’d love to see you!
