With summer in full swing, the gardens are full of activity. These include the plants and gardens themselves and also include our on-going hardscape improvements.
Just last last weekend we did the following:
- The high tunnel continued to take shape on Sunday, July 3, thanks to the efforts of project leader Alex Personius with able help from Dave Haymaker and Larry Barkdoll. We graded the gravel base and made significant progress on the structure itself
- On the new concrete block raised beds next to the high tunnel, Dave Haymaker and Bill Gregg stabilized the inner surface of the beds and added topsoil to help get more beds ready for planting by volunteer gardeners from the community. So far neighbors and friends of the Gardens have reserved 4 of the 9 initial beds. Two are already planted with plants we have available free on a first come, first served basis.
- 3-4 Major changes are underway at our main garden location on West 3rd Ave. On Saturday, July 2, our access path was graded, gravel spread, and grading completed for a large area for demonstrating gardening methods. The site work also enables us to increase the number of raised beds growing healthful produce for JCCM’s Food Pantry and other organizations serving neighbors in need. Special thanks to Billy Madert who operated the machine!
We’re looking for volunteers that want to help out with keeping the gardens running smoothly.
We also still have raised beds and plants available to anyone that wants to start a garden but doesn’t have the room. Stop by and visit us or send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Let’s Get Growing!
